Rising Stars: Misan Harriman

05 08 2020

Misan Harriman, who took up photography three years ago after training himself from YouTube videos, has gone from an amateur to being recruited by Edward Enninful to photograph British Vogue’s September issue.

After Enninful discovered his images from the Black Lives Matter protests in London, Harriman was invited to shoot Manchester United footballer Marcus Rashford, who recently campaigned for free school meals for children in the UK, as well as model and Gurls Talk founder Adwoa Aboah, for the cover of the magazine’s activism-themed issue. Talking about Harriman, who is the first black man to photograph a cover of British Vogue, Enninful commented ‘Misan’s pictures were so striking and powerful and really resonated with myself and our readers… I soon realised that his work was era-defining – and that he was the voice that was missing in the magazine’.
